Education Ambassadors

Welcome to the Ambassador area

ICE Ambassadors are members who volunteer to work with schools to encourage awareness and enthusiasm for Civil Engineering and the subjects which underpin its study. This involves attendance at careers fairs, giving presentations on engineering careers and running engineering activities with groups of school children. More information is available on the ICE national website.

Working with young people in schools can be an incredibly rewarding experience and as an ambassador you have to call on a wide range of skills such as communication, presentation skills, organisation and leadership. Ambassador activity also counts towards your CPD - so don't forget to record what you've gained from these experiences!

Becoming an ICE Ambassador

We are constantly on the look out for dynamic civil engineers to go into schools and enthuse young people about the profession. Many companies release employees throughout the year for school activities which jointly deliver the ICE message and help promote the graduates organisation.

If you’re not already an ICE Ambassador and would like to find out more information about becoming one then please read this document. If you’re still interested then please fill in the Application Form and send it to your Regional Education Co-ordinator at the address below.

If you’re interested in finding out about the activities that an Ambassador can expect to be involved in then please see Activities Explained for more information. The majority of these activities are not run by the ICE but by our partners ConstructionSkills and STEMNET (activities are run on behalf of STEMNET by county based STEMPOINTS and Education Business Partnerships, EBP).

Existing Ambassadors

For those of you who are already Ambassadors you can see a list of the activities that are currently available in the Activity Diary.

The Regional Education Team also sends out regular E-Bulletins to update Ambassadors on latest news and events. If you have not been receiving these, please contact the Regional Education Team Coordinator.

Join the Regional Education Team (RET)
The RET's long term goal is to increase the number of young people interested in pursuing a career in civil engineering. ICE ambassadors are already contributing towards this, but if you would like to take a more active role then please consider joining the RET - encouraging others to become ambassadors, and organising fun and exciting events to promote civil engineering and the ICE to the next generation of civil engineers.

If you are interested, or want to find out more information on what is involved, please contact the Regional Education Coordinator (REC).

Latest News

03/12/07 – Thanks to ICE Members in the region this year the Ambassador Scheme has gone from strength to strength but we still urgently require more Ambassadors if we are to directly address the shortage of Civil Engineers. I would urge you to circulate the promotional flyer to as many Civil Engineers in the region as you can.

01/04/08 Please join me in welcoming Stephanie Smithers as the new Regional Education Co-ordinator. Stephanie previously worked alongside Steve Frost on the Regional Education Team and has already organised a successful Rapid Response Challenge at a local school with 60 children.
